Determination of the Possibilities of Using Different Compost Materials as Seedling Medium for Tomatoes, Cucumbers and Peppers

A peat-perlite mixture is preferred as a growing medium for seedlings in tomato, cucumber, and pepper. However, the unavailability of suitable peat material for seedling cultivation in our country results in a dependence on foreign sources in this field.In the experiment, 13 different growing media control 2:1 ratio of peat: perlite; Grape compost; Apple compost; Tomato compost; Grape+apple+tomato compost; 2:1 ratio of grape compost: perlite; 2:1 ratio of apple compost: perlite; 2:1 ratio of tomato compost: perlite; 2:1 ratio of (grape+apple+tomato compost): perlite; 1:1:1 ratio of grape compost:peat: perlite; 1:1:1 ratio of grape compost:peat: perlite; 1: 1:1:1 ratio of apple compost:peat: perlite; 1:1:1 ratio of tomato compost:peat: perlite; 1:1:1:1 ratio of (grape+apple+tomato compost):peat: perlite) The tomato, cucumber and pepper seed germination rate, seedling height, stem thickness, number of leaves, leaf color, seedling wet and dry weight, root wet and dry weight were examined. As a result of the experiment, alternative media to peat: perlite mixture (control) attracted attention.
