This research presents a new approach for reconstructing two-dimensional temperature distribution in the firebox of a commercial coal power plant. The method involves measuring the temperature field distribution using four optical probes connected via fiber optic cables with spectrometers. The iterated Tikhonov method with a Bayesian framework was used for solving the ill-posed inverse problem. This method is faster than previous similar approaches, which makes it more suitable for real-time monitoring of the combustion process. The simulated measurement and reconstruction setup is based on a spectroscopy approach with the assumption of gray body radiation from the medium. Certain random errors were introduced into the exact solution of the direct problem in order to simulate the measured data. This method has been confirmed based on experimental data from a 1D case where we have had measurements in a commercial coal power plant.
