His dissertation is a history of automation and artistic response in American broadcast radio between 1950 and 2010. His research aims to surface historical continuities behind phenomena in auditory media, such as automated distribution, that often appear as 21st-century novelties – and to recover earlier work by radio artists as critical precedents for new media experimenters.
