Diabetic macular edema (DME) is the most common cause of vision loss in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) and diabetic retinopathy (DR) [1]. The prevalence of DME in patients with diabetic retinopathy is 2.7–11% and depends on the type of diabetes and duration of the disease, but for type 1 and type 2 DM after 25 years of duration, the frequency of DME is approximately 30% [2]. The progression of DR causes an increase in the prevalence of DME [3]. According to other data, DME can occur at any stage of DR.
