The study of geography involves the active functioning of higher mental processes: thinking, attention, memory, imagination, etc. The study of domestic and foreign scientists showed that the systematic use of special work methods aimed at the correction and further development of these processes yield positive results. We see the perspective of our research in the development and implementation of the latest correction-oriented teaching aids in geography with a printed basis in the education of students from IP. The current stage of the development of the education system in Ukraine is characterized by educational innovations aimed at preserving the achievements of the past and, at the same time, at modernizing the education system in accordance with the requirements of the times, the latest achievements of science, culture and social practice. The pedagogical system is based on innovative activities, the formation and development of universal values, the development of the potential opportunities of the participants in the educational process, and the self-realization of the individual. The urgent need to take into account the perception of students will help to recognize the individual characteristics of each student and will help the child to quickly perceive the educational material as it is convenient for him, and on this basis to nurture in him the desire for knowledge and the acquisition of various types of competences. The systematic use of interactive methods is relevant for modern education, and acts as a fundamental component in the formation of a competent personality of a student as a citizen of a democratic society. The main task of the work of the special school is the pedagogical correction of intellectual disorders in schoolchildren. The effectiveness of pedagogical correction in geography lessons depends on taking into account the state of intellectual development of children, their individual and typological features, observing an individual approach and fostering interest in geography lessons. This approach will ensure that the special school fulfills the main task of working with students with intellectual disabilities. The article emphasizes that violations of higher forms of cognitive activity in schoolchildren with intellectual disabilities lead to significant difficulties in mastering educational material. A special school is an educational institution that is designed for the intellectual potential of these students and the training in which gives them the opportunity to adapt to life in society after graduation. Taking into account the difficulty of mastering their knowledge, the amount of educational material is reduced compared to a comprehensive school.
