ASBMB Student Chapters is a national community of undergraduate faculty and students focused on the advancement of undergraduate biochemistry and molecular biology research, education and science outreach. Organizationally, chapters are subdivided into six regions across the country, each led by two regional directors, which provides opportunities for both regional and national interaction of students and faculty. Benefits of having a student chapter at an institution include eligibility to apply for awards such as student travel awards to attend the national meeting, undergraduate research awards, an outstanding student chapter award, a regional meeting award, and outreach awards. Additionally, the ASBMB Honor Society ΧΩΛ recognizes student chapter members for their scholarly achievements, research accomplishments, and outreach activities. Networking opportunities are provided for faculty advisors through events such as an online journal club, Catalyst Conversations, and a reception at the national meeting. This poster will describe the basic steps for establishing a new student chapter and how to refresh an existing chapter.
