This article deals with maturity models in healthcare entities.It is based on a review of Polish and English-language literature, which was conducted regarding the meaning and specificity of maturity models in the healthcare sector and the assessment framework used in them.The essence of the application of maturity models in health care entities was pointed out and reference was made to research in this area conducted in Polish health care entities.The second part of the article answers the question of perspectives, evaluation criteria, and characteristics of maturity levels used in models concerning the management of IT processes.The most frequently used EMRAM model was discussed concerning its maturity stages and its limitations resulting from an excessive focus on technological aspects.An entirely different approach was also indicated, which considered social and managerial aspects in addition to technical ones, using the HISMM model as an example.Finally, perspectives and evaluation criteria used in digital maturity models for hospitals collected from various publications are presented.
