Objectives The purpose of this study is to confirm whether the smartphone dependence of adolescents has an impact on academic helplessness and to verify of direct effects and moderating effects in according to social support. Methods The research was conducted to the adolescents who were third grade middle school students with 152 subjects in G metroplitan city. For data processing, SPSS 21.0 program was used. The research methood is used to measure reliability by Cronbach's α, frequency analysis, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and moderated regression analysis. Results The results of this study are as follows: Smartphone Dependence and social support revealed direct influence on academic helplessness. Moreover, the social support checked the moderating effect of do smartphone dependence on academic helplessness. Conclusions Adolescents with smartphone dependence reported a greater level of academic helplessness and having social support resources reduced the effects of smartphone dependence resulting in lowered level of academic helplessness.
