The detection and classification of faults in Series compensated transmission lines is a problem, because of series compensated element. This article introduces a new approach, known as the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) method, which decomposing three phase currents, and the ground current to energy coefficients at high and low frequency levels. Db10 mother wavelet is used for decomposing currents to get energy coefficients at high and low frequency. The key advantage of this technique is its ability to detect the fault without depends on a threshold level. Moreover, the proposed method depends on sending end available information only. Simulations results demonstrate that our proposed scheme have a best performance in terms of accuracy for a series compensated transmission lines fault detection.
