The article is devoted to a topical issue at the beginning of the twentieth century – the culture of conducting missionary polemics. The Manifesto of April 17, 1905 allowed Orthodox Christians to convert to other denominations. It opened up a number of problems for the Russian Orthodox Church and the Russian government and forced them to look for ways and new methods of missionary activity to retain adherents of Orthodoxy in their ranks and attract new followers.
