As the population ages, dementia-a frequent illness of the elderly-has drawn more attention. The impairment in memory processing is one of the most well-known and researched areas of dementia; hearing impairment disorders, on the other hand, have received far less attention. The association between hearing impairment and dementia has gradually become a major public health challenge, with apparent opportunities for earlier diagnosis, treatment, and prevention.Despite the existence of numerous theories, the pathogenic process remains unclear. In this systematic review, we summarized previous studies that have discussed the relationship between hearing impairment and other types of dementia. In conclusion, we believe a causal relationship exists between dementia and hearing impairment, and also the use of hearing aids may provide benefits not only to prevent dementia but also to improve cognitive function and hearing impairment.
