The number of seniors living alone has rapidly increased in the Republic of Korea. The purpose of this research is to examine how older people who live alone use their time by utilizing data from the 2019 "Time Use Survey."This paper focused on sleeping, eating, socializing and leisure activities of unemployed elderly living alone by gender, in particular. The main findings can be summarized as follows: There was no difference in sleep hours depending on gender differences. The male elderly living alone were more likely to eat poor meals than the female one.The unemployed male elderly living alone spent relatively longer time on leisure compared to the female one.In particular, the lower education level of elderly living alone spent relatively less time on leisure. The subjective unhealthy elderly living alone spent relatively less time on leisure, as well. The research results can be used as a guide for learning more about their lives and identifying strategies for enhancing their wellbeing in the context of the prediction that the number of senior single-person homes will continue to increase in the coming years.Furthermore, this empirical analysis is expected to be fully used as a statistical basis for preparing both the elderly friendly industrial support policies and the welfare policies for the elderly.
