Gowers (1881) and Trousseau (1877) were the first to describe gelastic seizures (GS), which are epileptic episodes marked by fits of laughter. Daly and Mulder first used the term "gelastic epilepsy" in 1957. Hypothalamic hamartomas (HH) are an extremely uncommon condition; in Israel, it affects 1 in 625,000 children and adolescents, and 1 in 200,000 in Sweden [1].
