A prototype of a 4-channel gel-filled power integrated module (PIM) is demonstrated for solar inverter maximum power point tracking (MPPT) applications. A 2 kV SiC MOSFET device enables simple 2-level boost topology compared with traditional complicated 3-level topologies of 1500V string solar inverter market. Design consideration of electrical and thermal performance is discussed. The performance of 2kV SiC MOSFET switching is verified by double pulse test method. The PIM package with 3 mm copper baseplate brings supreme heat dissipation capability of handling output power of more than 100 kW.
