Analysis and design of coupled inductor for optimal operation of Boost Extending Topology is presented. The analysis is based around the impact of coupling coefficient on the performance of the converter. Two major processes are analyzed, effective inductance, and resonance effect, and their contribution to converter current ripple and loss are summarized. A design methodology that enables coupling coefficient selection for converter performance in terms of efficiency and current ripple is outlined. In addition, to assist with control of the coupling coefficient during the design stage of coupled inductor, a coupled inductor design approach is demonstrated. To evaluate the theoretical derivations, an experimental prototype, including several coupled inductors with different coupling coefficients have been built and tested. Experimental results are provided.
