In this paper, a modified battery charge controller has been discussed. The importance of batteries has been increasing commercially as well as industrially. The growth in the EV sector demands a better and more efficient battery to power the vehicles. A buck-boost converter is used to interface the battery with the source or load. This paper discusses the various charging and discharging modes of a battery. CC/CV charging methods are one of the most traditional and widely used methods for battery charging. But sometimes it is observed that transients are high during the transition from CC to CV mode. Hence, in addition to current and voltage control, an SOC estimation-based controller has been introduced. This proposed control strategy has been tested for reducing transients using the mode selection technique. For SOC estimation, the Kalman filter method is used for better response.
