In this context, the review delves into the potential advantages that blockchain technology offers to supply chain operations, such as improved transparency, more efficient and secure data sharing, and automated execution of smart contracts. These advantages can significantly streamline the supply chain processes, reduce errors, enhance trust among stakeholders, and ultimately promote sustainability. The evaluation process includes both explicit and implicit benefits, where explicit benefits are readily observable and quantifiable, while implicit benefits may be more subtle but equally influential. By considering these factors, a comprehensive assessment of the impact of blockchain in supply chains can be made. A critical component of this study involves the computation of a global advisability indicator, which serves as a quantitative measure to compare the effectiveness of traditional supply chains against blockchain-enabled ones in terms of promoting sustainability. A higher advisability index for blockchain-enabled supply chains signifies that the adoption of blockchain technology is not only beneficial but also essential for fostering sustainability within the supply chain ecosystem. The objective of this research is to provide actionable insights for decision-makers, helping them make informed choices about the adoption of blockchain technology. As the supply chain landscape continues to evolve, embracing innovative solutions like blockchain can be a pivotal step toward more sustainable and efficient supply chain management.
