Electronics devices are built on semiconductor-based chips.Semiconductors are essential for proper operation of nearly all modern equipment like cars, mobiles phones, computers, aircrafts and as such, they constitute the foundation of the economies of all nations, including India.We are importing a significant quantity of semiconductors from outside to meet our daily growing needs.Our semiconductor sector lags well behind that of Taiwan, Japan, Korea, China, and the United States.Various government programs, such as the Semiconindia Programme, the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme, the Design Linked Incentive (DLI) Scheme, and others, are geared at making India a worldwide centre for the design, manufacturing, and technological advancement of semiconductors.
