Cyberbullying presents a profound and pressing challenge in our society today, particularly in the context of the burgeoning era of Web 4.0. Despite the remarkable advancements in technology and software applications, cyberbullying still remains a largely unsolved problem. With new and smarter resources at disposal, we are still unable to appropriately address the hurdles which cyberbullying creates on social networking sites. This paper performs an in-depth examination of the reasons behind this huge sociotechnical setback, endeavoring to scrutinize its origins, assess the potential for surmounting these obstacles, and outline prospective solutions. It further explores the major issues that significantly impede the detection and mitigation of cyberbullying, the attempts that have been made to address them, and future endeavors that can be made in the critical domain in light of an increasingly interconnected digital landscape.
