In vitro evaluation shows superior bond strength of MDP adhesives over non-MDP with higher bleaching concentrations.
Abstract Objectives: To evaluate the bond strength of MDP containing bonding agents after 35% of bleaching agents,To evaluate the bond strength of MDP containing bonding agents after 40% of bleaching agents,To evaluate the bond strength of Non-MDP containing bonding agents after 35% of bleaching agents,To evaluate the bond strength of Non- MDP containing bonding agents after 40% of bleaching agents,To compare the bond strength of the MDP and non MDP containing bonding agents with the different concentrations of Bleaching agents. Materials and Methods: Human permanent premolars, extracted for orthodontic purposes, were used in this study. The test group samples were Group 1: 35% H2O2 + MDP containing bonding agent, Group 2: 35% H2O2 + non MDP containing bonding agent, Group 3: 40% H2O2 + MDP containing bonding agent, Group 4: 40% H2O2 + non MDP containing bonding agent. The specimens were mounted in a universal testing machine. The tensile bond strength value was recorded in units of Mega Pascal (MPa). The data was checked for Normal distribution using the Shapiro-Wilk test. It is observed that all the groups follow Normality. Thus, the significant difference between the four groups in a parameter was assessed through one-way ANOVA. A p value < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: The highest mean value was observed in group 3, followed by group 1, and the lowest mean value was observed in group 2. Indicating MDP containing bonding agents have comparatively higher bond strength than non-MDP containing bonding agents, and also the bleached with 40% H2O2 showed higher tensile bond strength than teeth that were treated with 35% H2O2. The highest tensile bond strength was observed in samples subjected with 40% H2O2. The lowest tensile bond strength was observed in samples subjected to 35% H2O2, the highest tensile bond strength was observed in samples subjected to MDP containing bonding agent, The lowest tensile bond strength was observed in samples subjected to non-MDP containing bonding agent. Conclusion: The tensile bond strength of MDP bonding agents with 40% of Bleaching agents are comparatively better than Non MDP containing bonding agents with 35% Bleaching agents Clinical Relevance: The results of this research will be beneficial for practitioners to select the appropriate Bonding agents for bleached tooth surfaces, Also for the patients for long term durability of the restoration.
