This investigation demonstrates improved compressive strength and hardness in composite materials using silica sand and recycled thermoplastics, indicating sustainable material options.
Composite blocks are materials made by combining two or more different materials with unique characteristics to produce a new material with better properties. This study aims to develop thermoplastic composite materials using plastic waste and silica sand as a sustainable solution to address environmental issues. Composite samples were characterized based on porosity, compressive strength, and hardness, and morphological analysis was performed at the interface between silica particles and plastic matrix. The test results showed that the maximum compressive strength value reached 6,761 kgf/mm 2 , and the maximum hardness was 1.63 kg/mm 2 . These findings suggest the potential for utilizing plastic waste as an alternative raw material in the production of environmentally friendly composite blocks. This study contributes to the development of sustainable materials science and opens up opportunities for further innovation in materials engineering.
