Latent class analysis identifies four coping types in adolescents affected by cyber violence, suggesting tailored interventions.
This study aimed to typologize coping patterns among adolescents who experienced cyber violence victimization and to analyze the characteristics of each type and factors influencing their classification. Latent class analysis and multinomial logistic regression analysis were conducted on 3,443 adolescents who experienced cyber violence victimization from the 2024 Cyber Violence Survey data. The analysis revealed that coping patterns of adolescent cyber violence victims were classified into four types: Single Communication Type (24.1%), Sustained Collaboration Type (12.7%), Single Avoidance Type (33.2%), and Single Technical Solution Type (30.0%). The Single Communication Type pursued communication-centered solutions by directly requesting deletion or apology from perpetrators. The Sustained Collaboration Type showed active approach strategies utilizing both informal help- seeking and formal reporting simultaneously. The Single Avoidance Type chose avoidance strategies by taking no responsive actions, while the Single Technical Solution Type preferred technical solutions through blocking and account changes. Gender, school level, psychological maladjustment, and perpetrator type significantly influenced coping type classification. Particularly, higher levels of psychological maladjustment were associated with choosing the Sustained Collaboration Type, while lower levels were associated with the Single Avoidance Type. This study suggests the necessity of differentiated intervention strategies by coping types and customized prevention and response systems by school levels.
