Analysis reveals the role of surveillance camera systems in speed monitoring, suggesting improved traffic management.
The current way of life and globalization trends have led to increased mobility, both of people and goods. This growing mobility also brings along an accumulation of problems, with solutions being sought through improved traffic system management. Increased mobility significantly raises the number of conflict situations within the traffic system. Traditional methods of managing and resolving such conflicts are unable to keep pace with these trends and cannot provide an adequate response for quality and safe traffic management. One way to meet these growing demands lies in the broader application of innovative technologies. One such solution is the use of surveillance camera systems for traffic management. These systems are characterized by wide availability, high quality, and adherence to clean technology principles. Monitoring is conducted via video recordings, which are later used for sanctioning and forensic purposes. Speed parameters obtained from video footage can be calculated using a forensic method based on a simplified process for determining the speed of a vehicle captured by a stationary camera, as will be demonstrated in this paper.
