Analysis of fragmentation potential in 252Cf nucleus using quantum mechanical fragmentation theory suggests energetically favorable decay modes.
The quaternary fission analysis of ²⁵²Cf nucleus is carried out by using quantum mechanical fragmentation theory (QMFT). The present work investigates the fragmentation potential of ²⁵²Cf nucleus, with a focus on the role of light-charged particles as middle fragments in a collinear configuration. The study is employed to analyze the relative emergence of various fragment combinations. Initially, combinations of light fragments such as ¹H, ²H, ³H, ⁴He, ⁶Li, and ⁸Be are considered. The analysis reveals that the fragmentation mode ¹³²Sn + ⁴He + ⁴He + ¹¹²Ru exhibits the minimum fragmentation potential, highlighting its energetic favorability, which is attributed to the shell closure of the doubly magic ¹³²Sn nucleus and the presence of two α-particles. The study further explores heavier clusters such as ¹⁰Be and ¹⁴C. A correlation between Q-values and fragmentation potentials is observed, indicating the likelihood of energetically favorable decay modes. Theoretical predictions are supported by existing experimental evidence, reinforcing the significance of shell effects and energy minimization principles in the dynamics of multicluster fission.
