Analysis reveals differing Franco-Russian responses to the Syrian conflict, highlighting Macron's policy shift.
The Syrian conflict that unfolded from 2011 has acquired the status of one of the most complex international crises of our time. Russia’s strategy in the Syrian direction was based on a multi-level approach aimed at restoring regional security and creating conditions for a peaceful settlement. At the same time, Russia’s position contrasted with that of the West and France in particular. The article analyzes the evolution of France’s Syrian policy from the uncompromising approach of the F. Hollande administration to the attempt at “de-ideologization” of the French course under E. Macron. The author also examines the disagreements of key French parties on the Syrian issue and the attitude of French society towards the policy of the Élysée Palace.
