This paper highlights the contributions of a notable Indian scientist to computer science and artificial intelligence, illustrating his multidisciplinary research approach.
This paper presented here emphases on the research work and life of Indian scientist Prof. Dr. R. Narasimhan. He is credited with creating the first fully-featured Indian computer in India. After obtaining a bachelor's degree in India, he studied electrical engineering in the USA and did a Ph.D. in mathematics there. After that, on returning to India, he dedicated his whole life to science. Throughout his work, he has been distinguished because of his thinking on the importance and connection of language with science. He also presented his thoughts ranging from how a child learns a language to the newly emerging artificial intelligence. He was one of the few scientists to introduce the idea of pattern recognition as a foundation of natural language processing. In the foundation of multidisciplinary research work with a single subject, Prof. Dr. R. Narasimhan's life is instructive.
