Analytical study explores wave scattering dynamics in porous environments, indicating critical interactions.
An analytical study of water wave scattering by a submerged elastic plate in the presence of a porous bed overlying an infinite rigid bottom is presented in this study. The wave flow model that resembles the practical situation is framed into a boundary value problem (BVP). We have used the eigenfunction expansion method for finding the solution, assuming small-amplitude surface waves and structural response. The effect of only the clamped edge condition is analyzed in this study. The study aims to analyze the interaction between the scattering waves and a submerged elastic plate in the presence of a porous bed, where we have considered two different scenarios- a finite porous bed and an infinite porous bed. We have analyzed the wave behavior using the reflection coefficient and hydrodynamic wave force calculated. By taking into account various plate and porous bed length ratios, porous bed thicknesses, and the plate's relative position, a thorough critical analysis is carried out. Also, the special case of porous bed having indefinite length is also examined. The results give valuable insights into the influence of elastic plate and porous bed parameters on wave scattering and wave energy dissipation, which gives an understanding of wave structure interaction in porous environments. The results have potential uses in offshore and coastal engineering, especially in the construction of wave-attenuating structures.
