This analysis assesses border checkpoint obstacles impacting agrologistics in Armenia, suggesting international solutions.
The agrologistics system constitutes a key component of the logistics infrastructure of the Republic of Armenia, the efficiency of which is highly influenced by challenges at border checkpoints. In particular, the prolonged accumulation of Armenian freight trucks at the Upper Lars checkpoint leads to significant economic losses and social problems. A large share of exported agricultural products, having limited shelf life, is often spoiled at the border, resulting in considerable financial losses for exporters and threatening the sustainability of farmers’ activities. At the same time, Armenian drivers face the absence of essential living conditions, including food, shelter, and medical assistance. Considering the above, the aim of the article is to assess the current state of Armenia’s agrologistics system, analyze the obstacles arising at border checkpoints and their socio-economic implications, and propose effective solutions based on international best practices. Special attention is paid to the potential application of American models, particularly the establishment of “truck stations,” the construction of specialized refrigerated warehouses at border crossings, and the introduction of electronic meters for freight vehicles. As a result of the analysis, the article formulates infrastructural and institutional development proposals aimed at reducing logistics costs, ensuring the efficiency of freight operations, and enhancing the competitiveness of Armenia’s agrologistics system in the international market.
