This analysis shows that adjustments in slag components improve desulfurization in refining systems, suggesting optimization strategies.
The desulfurization ability of refining slag systems has practical significance for the production of iron and steel. In this study, the desulfurization ability ( L S ) of refining slag with high Al 2 O 3 content and the internal relationship between slag composition and L S are investigated based on Raman spectra analysis. The results show that L S increases with w (CaF 2 ), w (CaO)/ w (SiO 2 ) (binary basicity, R 2 ), and w (MgO), and the maximum increment in L S is close to 110% from 29.85 to 61.74, when R 2 increases 50% from 2.0 to 3.0. The reason for the increment in L S is that the intensities of the characteristic peaks of and decrease, and (NBO/T) increases gradually as w (CaF 2 ), R 2 , and w (MgO) increase based on Raman spectra analysis. This indicates that the increase in w (CaF 2 ), R 2 , and w (MgO) promotes the depolymerization of and network structures owing to the increase in O 2− or F − ions in the slag. As w (Al 2 O 3 ) increases, the spectral peak intensity of increases, and (NBO/T) decreases, whereas the amount of basic oxide decreases, thus resulting in fewer O 2− ions and weakened L S .
