Field trial evaluates cyazofamid for cavity spot control in parsnip, suggesting potential effectiveness compared to mefenoxam.
Cavity spot, caused by the oomycete, Globisporangium ultimum, is a challenge for parsnip ( Pastinaca sativa) production in the Pacific Northwest of the United States due to its impact on quality of storage roots, which are the marketable portion of the plant. Symptoms include small, horizontal light brown lesions on the storage root, which can darken and enlarge. This report evaluates the efficacy of Ranman 400 SC (cyazofamid) in comparison with the grower standard Ridomil Gold SL (mefenoxam) and a nontreated control for the management of cavity spot on storage roots of parsnip. The trial was conducted during 2024 to 2025 in Aurora, OR, on parsnip ‘Javelin’. Results from these trials will help in developing a management strategy for this disease.
