Faunistic surveys identified Hyridella misoolensis presence on Batanta Island, highlighting its range extension.
The freshwater bivalve Hyridella misoolensis (Schepman, 1897) is currently known as distributed on New Guinea Island and Misool Island westward of new Guinea. Here we report the first records of the species from Batanta Island, located to the northwest of New Guinea, based on faunistic surveys conducted by Hungarian researchers for the aquatic fauna in the rivers on Batanta Island, Raja Ampat Islands, West Papua, Indonesia. Dead shells of the freshwater mussel, H. misoolensis (Schepman, 1897), were found only in the Waridor River located in the northwest region of the island.
