Analysis uncovers processes of color designations' transformation in Russian, indicating the role of language users in establishing colorism terminology.
The article examines the color designation’s semantical and structural transformations in the Russian language in the process of their use in the special field and in the Russian language in general, as well as the acquisition of colorism as a term. The purpose of this study is to examine the path of colorism into the terminological system and its consolidation within the system of terms. The study is based on colorisms found in the special literature on ornithology, zoology, ichthyology, and color linguistics. The result of the study is a list of processes that reflect the phenomenon of colorism terminologization in modern conditions. The article mentions that the change in the traditional structure of color designations in the Russian language over the past decades indicates an expansion of the lexical and semantic possibilities of the coloristic term system. The process of "endowing" a color designation with the functions of a term or incorporating a colorism into a terminological combination is both a result of the speech activity of language users and a reflection of changing conditions.
