Case report reveals how UVFD identifies live mites in scabies cases, highlighting its diagnostic value.
Scabies is a common parasitic infestation caused by Sarcoptes scabiei var. hominis, with approximately 300 million cases yearly. Ultraviolet-induced fluorescence dermoscopy (UVFD) offers additional contrast, facilitating the visualization of burrows and other features that aid in diagnosing scabies, especially in equivocal cases. In this report of three cases in the same family, UVFD helped identify the live mite, which was not visible through conventional dermoscopy, thus establishing its pivotal role in the non-invasive diagnosis of diseases of public importance.
