The analysis reveals significant effects of misalignment on lubrication properties in bearings, suggesting design improvements.
To study the uncertain lubrication property of diesel engine main bearings operating under offset load conditions, a lubrication model considering the bidirectional misalignment effect is established, and the influence of the BMA (bidirectional misalignment angle) on the static lubrication property of the diesel engine main bearings under various rotational speeds and loading conditions is thoroughly investigated. The results show that the static characteristics of the bearings may deteriorate with the decrease of rotational speed and the increase of load. The misalignment angle (MA) exerts a substantial influence on both the lubricant film thickness and pressure profile, resulting in elevated maximum oil pressure (MOP) while concurrently reducing both the attitude angle and minimum film thickness (MOT). Moreover, the effect of BMA on the static performance of the bearing is considerably more substantial than that of unidirectional misalignment. The findings are crucial for guiding the optimal design of diesel engine main bearing structures and improving the safety and stability of operation.
