Analysis of the establishment of dokdo security police and their collaboration with volunteer forces, emphasizing their role in defending sovereignty.
After 1953, Japanese continued to invade Dokdo, so a Dokdo volunteer forces was organized on Ulleungdo, mainly consisting of soldiers wounded in the Korean War, and they began to guard Dokdo. Shortly, Dokdo security police was also stationed on Dokdo, and the guarding of Dokdo became more systematic. Nine members of the Dokdo volunteer forces were specially recruited as police officers to serve in the Dokdo security police. On November 21, 1954, the Dokdo volunteer forces repelled a Japanese patrol boat with gunfire and from the summit of Dongdo, and it is presumed that the Dokdo security police collaborated in this operation. Therefore, the Dokdo volunteer forces is considered the predecessor of the Dokdo security police, and the collaboration between the two organizations in defending Dokdo is regarded as a model case of mutual cooperation between local residents and the police. The Dokdo security police has defended Dokdo from the front lines for the longest period in history, from July 1954 to the present, and has played the most substantial role in establishing Republic of Korea's sovereignty over Dokdo.
