Research demonstrates flexural strength in concrete-filled double-layer steel columns, suggesting improved structural performance and confinement effects.
In order to meet the structural performance of the high-rise building as the height of the building increases, a special column with concrete-filled double-layer steel tubes was proposed in previous research. To apply this kind of column to the tomorrow’s high-rise building, it is necessary to accurately estimate its flexural strength. In this study, it has been verified that the calculated flexural strength of this kind of column specimen considering the increase in compressive strength of concrete caused by the confinement effect of steel tubes can well evaluate its experimental flexural strength. In addition, the experimental results showed that the decreasing ratios of lateral force after the maximum experimental lateral force of the column specimen with a large diameter-to- thickness ratio of the outer steel tube were greater than those of the column specimen with a small diameter-to-thickness ratio of the outer steel tube.
