Time-resolved laser-induced fluorescence measured radiative lifetimes in Ce II and Ce III, suggesting new data could enhance understanding of rare earth elements.
Using the time-resolved laser-induced fluorescence technique, the radiative lifetimes for 34 levels from 31568.019 to 48657.336 cm−1 in Ce II and 10 levels from 50043.85 to 63335.40 cm−1 in Ce III were measured. To our best knowledge, 30 levels of Ce II and six levels of Ce III were measured for the first time. Transition probabilities and oscillator strengths for 661 lines of Ce II and 91 lines of Ce III were obtained by combining our measured lifetimes with theoretical branching fractions derived from the Database on Rare Earths at Mons University.
