Quantitative analysis reveals barriers faced by grade 7 contractors in green building projects, suggesting targeted interventions.
The Malaysian construction industry is increasingly aligning itself with global sustainability goals through the adoption of green building practices. However, the involvement of Grade 7 contractors—key players in large-scale construction projects—remains limited. This study identifies the current level of participation of Grade 7 contractors in green building initiatives, the assess major barriers they face, and recommends actionable strategies for enhancing their engagement. Using a quantitative research method, data were collected via a structured questionnaire distributed to Grade 7 contractors operating in Selangor, Malaysia. The responses were analysed using SPSS software, applying reliability tests, frequency analysis, and average index ranking. Findings reveal that while contractors demonstrate moderate awareness of green construction principles, significant challenges persist, including high costs of compliance, lack of training, and limited government incentives. The study proposes targeted interventions such as capacity-building programs, regulatory support, and improved access to green technologies. These insights aim to support policymakers and industry stakeholders in fostering broader contractor participation in sustainable construction, ultimately contributing to Malaysia’s green development goals.
