This article discusses deviations from syntactic norms in Polish written in Ukraine, highlighting issues of consent compounds.
Background: The article considers debatable problems in selected types of consent compounds in Polish. Purpose: The main purpose of the article is to comment on the questionable normative status of consent compounds in written Polish in Ukraine, which makes it possible to sort out the relevant deviations from the norm on the basis of the criterion of their rank. Results: Normative difficulties in the field of consensual compounds in Polish in Ukraine are gradable. Based on the materials of “Gazeta Polska Bukowina”, we distinguish – from the perspective of general Polish – three types of deviations from the codified norm: 1) obvious deviations, such as: Nasi kobiety […] przygotowali; 2) constructions occurring in the general usus, but not yet widespread and therefore questionable to most users, e.g.: […] zmieniło się co najmniej cztery pokolenia uczestników; 3) constructions that are widespread, represent new trends and are rather accepted by users, e.g.: Do Czerniowiec przyjechały dzieci i dorośli. Deviations from the norm related to agreement in terms of genus categories have an inferential origin. Improper agreement of the numeral with the noun and verb in terms of number partly has an interferential influence. The remaining alignments in terms of the category of number do not bear traces of the influence of the corresponding Ukrainian language structures and represent attempts, universal in inflectional languages, to linearly align the members of the utterance in terms of the category of number (e.g., Panował chaos i dezorientacja) or to over-semantize the number (Zna języki polski i ukraiński).
