Study reveals active control improves honing precision of cylinder liners, reducing diameter defects significantly.
Study results on a change in the inner diameter of liners when honing with active control facilities and without them are presented. It is shown that the inner surface of a liner wears out greater in its upper part. Reasons of wearing out are described. It was established that the most common method of liner renewal was mechanical treatment of the inner surface to next increased size. It is shown that after boring to the repair size, the process of honing is applied. A design description of a pneumatic active control system is given, which is used during the honing process. The evaluation method of accuracy of the liner treatment with the use of active control is described. It is shown that the use of the active control system during honing reduces defects concerning exceeding the tolerance for the inner size of cylinder liners.
