Quantitative analysis assesses productivity changes for quantity surveyors in G7 contractor firms, highlighting key challenges and strategies for improvement.
Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR 4.0) technologies hold significant potential to enhance the productivity of quantity surveyors (QS) in G7 contractor firms in Selangor, Malaysia. This study focuses on identifying the current productivity levels of QS during IR 4.0 implementation, analyzing the challenges faced, and determining effective strategies to improve productivity using IR 4.0 tools. The study utilised a quantitative approach, employing structured questionnaires that were distributed to Quantity Surveyors in G7 contractor firms. The collected data underwent analysis using frequency analysis, average index calculations, and reliability tests. The findings indicate that the use of tools like Building Information Modelling (BIM) and data analytics contributes to improved efficiency, reduced errors, and better communication in Quantity Surveying tasks. Nonetheless, there are notable challenges that persist, including a lack of technical expertise, resistance to change, and elevated costs, which continue to serve as significant obstacles to adoption. The study emphasises the importance of implementing consistent training programs, gradually integrating technology, and collaborating with industry experts. These steps are essential for QS to effectively utilise IR 4.0 tools. This study highlights the potential impact of IR 4.0 technologies on the roles of Quantity Surveyors, emphasising improvements in productivity and the achievement of superior project outcomes within Malaysia’s construction sector.
