Research describes aquatic insects associations in a pristine river in a native forest, suggesting water quality implications.
The aquatic insects in Chilean inland waters included endemic species, as well as species widespread along South America, and their presence is related to the water quality of their inhabits habitats. The aim of the present study was provide a first description of aquatic insects community in a pristine river located in a relict of native forest in the Andes of central Chile using species co-occurrence null models. The results revealed that species associations are random, this means the absence of structured patterns into species community that is due to the presence of many species repeated in sites. The taxa reported would indicate that the river is pristine, and the taxa are similar to the reported for high course rivers. Ecological and topics are discussed.
