Analysis explores the citizenship and representative democracy in Mountain Alania, highlighting controversial historical definitions.
The article examines the poorly studied problems of the history of Alania-Ossetia in the late Middle Ages. Particular attention is paid to the author's discussion with doctor of historical sciences, professor of the North Ossetian State University R.S. Bzarov, who defends the concept of a confederal state in Mountain Alania in the late Middle Ages. In his opinion, Mountain Alania was essentially a so-called free confederation of 11 regions of the Ossetian people, which had their own citizenship, representative democracy and parliamentary self-government. The author of the article recognizes these definitions as controversial for the Ossetian people of the late Middle Ages and cites specific facts to support his version.
