This paper presents a proven coating system capable of delivering corrosion protection in splash zones for over 30 years without maintenance. The technology, known as Special Flake Glass Polyester (SFGP), has been reintroduced in the latest edition of NORSOK M-501 under paint systems 7A and 7D, highlighting its exceptional durability. Polyester-based materials are renowned for their toughness and longevity, widely used in aerospace, automotive, marine, and even architectural applications. SFGP builds on these properties, offering a long-standing track record in both offshore and onshore environments. It is supported by the most extensive third-party verification available for coatings of its kind, with documented performance exceeding 30 years in service. This paint system does provide some significant features in the sense of: Fast curing, fast overcoating and speeding up production in general,Have relatively little VOC (Volatile Organic Compound), meaning relatively very low release of solvents to the environment during application.A track record of over 40 years, several with zero maintenance for the entire exposure period, making the system extremely sustainable, built for the lifetime of the objects. This paper will present test results, references and case histories. A special focus will be done in the Ekofisk offshore field in Norway, where was documented 35–40-year case history. The legs of this structure were applied with this coating system in the early 1980’s. The structure was standing offshore until 2019, when it was dismantled. Structures were inspected and lab tests were conducted on the existing coating, which again shows that the system still today protects the surface. Hence has managed to deliver a maintenance free system for over 35-40 years in offshore exposure.
