Analysis reveals high genetic diversity among six species of medicinal flora, suggesting effective genotyping using SSR markers.
SSR genetic markers serve as invaluable tools for elucidating population genetic structures. Attempts are be-ing made to build an SSR fingerprinting database on their basis to provide support for similar screening of plants for species or varieties. In this study, using different species of medicinal flora (M. piperíta, M. longofolia, P. májor, S. glutinosa, A. ursnium, T. officionale), we tried to select a set of SSR markers for genotyping with high specificity and polymorphism, suitable for agarose gel electrophoresis. It was found that the interspecific genetic distance was very high compared to the intraspecific genetic distance in 6 plant species. Of the selected 6 primer pairs, 4 gave 99.91% polymorphic bands when tested on 6 plant species, indicating that the species diverged from each other due to high genetic diversity. SSR markers generated a high percentage of polymorphism in genotypes and determined the highly informative nature of the markers. High interspecific genetic diversity and low intraspecific diversity indicate that SSR markers can be used for unambiguous identification of species.
