Panel data analysis shows technological innovation enhances carbon emission efficiency in logistics, suggesting pathways for sustainable development.
Under the goals of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, technological innovation stands as a key driver for the logistics industry's low-carbon transformation, significantly enhancing its carbon emission efficiency. This study utilizes panel data from 30 Chinese provinces (2013 - 2022) to measure technological innovation levels and logistics carbon emission efficiency. By applying the fixed effect model and examining mediating effects, the research uncovers three main findings: Firstly, during the study period, logistics carbon emission efficiency in China generally declined from east to west. Secondly, technological innovation notably improves logistics carbon emission efficiency, with more pronounced emission reduction effects in eastern and western provinces. Thirdly, technological innovation indirectly boosts logistics carbon emission efficiency through industry agglomeration and structural upgrading. These results highlight the importance of regional considerations and technological advancements in promoting sustainable development in the logistics sector.
