Analysis reveals strong cyclical synchronization between manufacturing activities and GDP in Tunisia, highlighting the role of non-parametric methods.
This article aims to reveal the degree of cyclical synchronization between different sectors of the Tunisian economy between January 2001 and December 2015. To achieve this objective, we used a set of non-parametric methods (filtering techniques, cyclical correlation method) in this study. The results of the estimates show that manufacturing and market activities are highly synchronized with GDP in Tunisia, which is not the case for agriculture and non-manufacturing industries. Consequently, the impact of internal and external shocks on the economy as a whole and by sector could therefore affect the level of cyclical synchronization of the Tunisian economy.
