Case study analyzes information disclosure by Baosteel in the steel industry, highlighting effective practices for carbon neutrality.
Under the strategic background of global climate change and the "dual carbon" goals (carbon peak and carbon neutrality), the steel industry, as a fundamental industry with high energy consumption and high emissions, the quality of its environmental information disclosure is directly related to the progress of achieving the carbon neutrality goal. As a leading enterprise in China's steel industry, Baosteel Co., Ltd. has taken the lead in establishing a dual disclosure system covering financial reports and sustainable development reports, and has formed a systematic information disclosure framework in areas such as climate action, carbon reduction technologies, and low-carbon products. This study takes Baosteel Co., Ltd. as a case, and combines its publicly disclosed annual reports, sustainable development reports and special announcements from 2019 to 2024 to conduct an analysis from two dimensions: the content of disclosure and the method of disclosure. The information disclosure practice of Baosteel Co., Ltd. provides a benchmark model for the "dual carbon" transformation of China's steel industry. Through quantitative target setting, technological innovation disclosure and multi-carrier linkage, it has effectively enhanced information transparency and the trust of stakeholders. In the future, it is necessary to further enhance the capabilities of data refinement and risk quantification to support sustainable development under the global low-carbon competition.
