Analysis reveals green hydrogen's potential to enhance sustainable development, reduce fossil fuel reliance, and drive investments.
This article analyzes and reflects on the crucial role of green hydrogen production with zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions as a geopolitical and business strategy to drive sustainable development, mitigate climate change, and slow its spread on Earth, in a context of high global demand and consumption of fossil fuels such as coal, hydrocarbons, and natural gas, along with disputes over the control of oil. The methodology employed consisted of a comprehensive review of scientific articles published in recent years, including updates up to 2025, in which more than 150 studies from diverse global contexts addressing hydrogen production, transportation, storage, and commercialization were examined. The findings shed light on the important role of green hydrogen in addressing global challenges, its contribution to achieving sustainability, reducing climate change, and limiting the spread of diseases through cleaner energy systems. From a business perspective, it offers significant opportunities for investment, market expansion, and supply chain diversification, with the global market projected to grow from USD 12.31 billion in 2025 to USD 199.22 billion in 2034, driven by industrial applications and energy transitions. These beneficial impacts are imperative for humans, governments, corporations, and investors, fostering resilient business models, job creation, long-term profitability, and the protection of planetary resources.
