Descriptive analysis shows that education and hybrid seeds improve banana productivity in Ecuador, indicating innovative strategies are underutilized.
Introduction: This study aims to analyze the factors that affect productivity levels and their impact on Ecuadorian banana exports, given that agricultural productivity is of common interest as a result of population growth and the consequent demand for food. Methodology: A descriptive and correlational research was used, taking the three main banana-producing provinces of Ecuador as a sample. By applying the Logit econometric model, the factors that influence banana productivity for export purposes are established. Results: The findings show that the main factors include: size and extension of crops; location; level of education of producers; and type of seed used. In addition, the adoption of innovative strategies to boost banana production is low and are not visible in most small businesses. Discussion: The results suggest the need to implement modern technologies that benefit production, especially among small and medium-sized farmers, not just large corporations. Conclusions: This study provides evidence that farmers who adopt innovative strategies, have higher education, and use improved and hybrid seeds have greater advantages in production quality and quantity, which benefits product exports.
